Anomalies

Marked text is printed in red in LRR v2.0 (new or changed with Prophecy of Kings)

An anomaly is a system tile that has unique rules.

An anomaly is identified by a red border located on the tile’s corners.
There are four types of anomalies: asteroid fields, nebulae, supernovas, and gravity rifts.
  1. Some anomalies contain planets; those systems are still anomalies.
Each type of anomaly is identified by its art, as follows:
  • Gravity Rift
  • Nebula
  • Asteroid Field
  • Supernova
Abilities can cause a system tile to become an anomaly; that system tile is an anomaly in addition to its other properties.
Abilities can cause a system to be two different anomalies; that system has the properties of both anomalies.
Moving through a gravity riftA ship with move 2 travels three systems by passing through a gravity rift, which grants +1 move but requires a die roll.ship, move 2gravity riftactive system123 (+1)Leaving or passing through the rift: +1 move for this ship, but roll 1 die just before it exits — on 1–3 it is removed.
Moving through a gravity rift. A ship that moves out of or through a gravity rift applies +1 to its move value; roll for it immediately before it leaves the rift, and on a 1–3 it is removed from the board (LRR 41). Our illustration — not rulebook art.
